RHEA-2015:0151 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
openstack-cinder enhancement advisory
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenStack Block Storage packages that resolve various issues
are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6.0
(Juno).
Description
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities
for building a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS)
cloud running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory
includes packages for:
- OpenStack Block Storage service
OpenStack Block Storage (cinder) manages block storage mounting and
the presentation of such mounted block storage to instances. The
back-end physical storage can consist of local disks, Fiber Channel,
iSCSI, and/or NFS mounts attached to Compute nodes. In addition, Block
Storage supports volume backups, and snapshots for temporary save and
restore operations. Programmatic management is available through the
Block Storage service’s API.
With this update, the Block Storage packages are now re-based to upstream version 2014.2.1. This applies several fixes and implements some notable enhancements, including:
- The Block Storage service now features a new volume number (count)
weigher. This adds more flexibility in volume scheduling policy, as
it allows you to configure volume distribution based on the number
of volumes per back-end (rather than available back-end space).
(BZ#1108992)
- The Block Storage service now allows you to set Consistency Groups.
With this, you can group multiple volumes together as a single
entity; this, in turn, allows you to perform operations on multiple
volumes (for example, create snapshots) at once, rather than
individually. (BZ#1101378)
- You can now configure the openstack-cinder-volume service to limit
I/O bandwidth when copying data between volumes. This allows you to
throttle the load placed on the openstack-cinder-volume node for
long-running I/O copy operations. To use this feature, configure the
'volume_copy_blkio_cgroup_name' and 'volume_copy_bps_limit' settings
in /etc/cinder/cinder.conf of the openstack-cinder-volume node
accordingly. (BZ#1081834)
- Some Block Storage drivers now support the ability to manage the
storage back end's replication. (BZ#1105411)
