RHEA-2009:1425 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
new package: virtio
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Topic
New virtio packages, which provide para-virtualized drivers for
fully-virtualized instances of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.9 running on KVM
are now available.
Description
The virtio packages provide para-virtualized drivers for KVM
fully-virtualized Linux guests.
The para-virtualized drivers for KVM guests consist of five modules:
virtio, virtio_blk, virtio_net, virtio_pci and virtio_ring. All five
modules are loaded in case you need both block and network devices drivers.
Para-virtualized drivers increase the performance of block and network
devices. These drivers are part of version 2.6 of the Linux kernel and have
been backported to version 2.4 of the Linux kernel with the help of the
official backport suite. (BZ#485437)
Users wanting improved network and block device performance in
fully-virtualized instances of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.9 running on KVM
should install these new packages.
