RHEA-2009:0217 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
New e4fsprogs package
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
A new e4fsprogs package to support the ext4dev file system is now
available.
Description
The e4fsprogs package contains a number of utilities for creating,
checking, modifying, and correcting inconsistencies in ext4 and ext4dev
file systems. e4fsprogs contains e4fsck (used to repair file system
inconsistencies after an unclean shutdown), mke4fs (used to initialize a
partition to contain an empty ext4 file system), tune4fs (used to modify
file system parameters), and most other core ext4fs file system utilities.
This package is designed to install alongside the original e2fsprogs
package in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and as such, some binaries have been
given new names. For example, the utility to check ext4 file systems for
consistency has been renamed to "e4fsck", allowing the original "e2fsck"
from e2fsprogs to remain unchanged.
All users wanting to use and administer ext4dev file systems must install
this newly released package, and use the provided e4fsprogs utilities.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
