Topic
An update x11-drv-ati package that fixes various bugs, adds several
enhancements, and includes a technology preview is now available.
Description
The xorg-x11-drv-ati package provides a driver for ATI(r) cards for the X.Org
implementation of the X Window System.
Bugs fixed in the updated package include:
- Running Nautilus on SGI Altix Itanium caused system to hang. The driver
for the ATI(r) FireMV 2200 on SGI Altix Itanium machines no longer causes
Nautilus to hang.
- Some ATi 2400Pro graphics cards running the r500 driver displayed bouncy,
blurry or fuzzy output. This bug has been resolved and users of the card
should experience normal output.
- The driver caused the attached monitor(LVDS) on certain Lenovo laptops to
fade to white instead of black. This bug has been resolved and Lenovo
laptops with R500 series graphics cards should correctly fade to black when
expected.
- Various issues with graphical installation processes were caused by the
x11-drv-ati package. Several platforms could not load anaconda in
graphical mode or the firstboot program. These issues are resolved in the
updated package.Failure to run graphical anaconda and firstboot on several
platforms
- Virtual terminal switching did not work properly for certain ATI(r) cards.
All cards should now switch to a virtual terminal when the Ctrl + Alt + F1
keyboard combination is used without video display issues.
- Switching between virtual terminals caused fonts to blur and corrupt with
Lenovo T60 laptops. The updated package fixes this issue.
- The r500 driver failed on 30 inch(76cm) displays with R600 series
graphics cards. This bug has been resolved by adding an additional mode
to the driver allowing resolutions up to 2560x1600.
- On Lenovo Thinkpad X60, T60 and T61 laptops with ATI(r) graphics cards the
Fn + F7 key combination for switching between internal and external
displays did not work. This key combination works for switching between
internal and external displays with the updated package.
- On HP Compaq 6910p laptops, the Fn + F4 key combination for enabling
external displays did not work. This key combination works for enabling
external displays with the updated package.
- Dual-link DVI adapters failed with several R600 graphics cards. Dual-link
DVI adapters now work for most cards with the updated package.
Enhancements added in the updated package include:
- Enhanced support for ATI(r) FireMV 2200 on SGI Altix Itanium2 servers.
All ATI graphics card users should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
