Synopsis
New java-1.6.0-bea packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Topic
New java-1.6.0-bea packages that comprise BEA's 1.6.0 SDK release are now
available.
Description
The following packages comprise BEA's 1.6.0 Java release:
java-1.6.0-bea
java-1.6.0-bea-jdbc
java-1.6.0-bea-demo
java-1.6.0-bea-missioncontrol
java-1.6.0-bea-devel
java-1.6.0-bea-src
These packages include the BEA Java 6 Runtime Environment and the BEA Java
6 Software Development Kit.
The Java 6 Runtime Environment (JRE) consists of the Java virtual machine,
the Java platform core classes and supporting files. It is the runtime
section of the Java 6 SDK, but without the development tools such as
compilers and debuggers.
The Java 6 Software Development Kit (SDK) is a development environment for
building applications, applets, and components that can be deployed on the
Java platform. The Java 6 SDK software includes tools useful for
developing and testing programs written in the Java programming language.
The Java 6 SDK software also includes a JDBC/ODBC bridge for Java
applications that need to communicate with a database.
These new packages include BEA's 1.6.0 SDK release.
Users of java-1.5.0-bea may install these new 1.6.0 packages in parallel
and switch between the new and old Java environments using the alternatives
tool, which is located at /usr/sbin/alternatives.
