RHEA-2007:0233 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
diskdumputils enhancement update
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated diskdumputils packages that add a new enhancement are now
available.
Description
The diskdump utilities set up the kernel to save memory image to the
specified partition.
This update adds a new "dumpfilter" command, which reads data from a
compressed vmcore file created by the diskdump utility's savecore(8) command,
and creates a new filtered dumpfile. The contents of the filtered dumpfile
are essentially the same as dumpfiles created by the diskdump facility's
"partial dump" feature, which eliminate pages typically not required for
fault analysis, thereby resulting in a much smaller vmcore dumpfile.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
