RHEA-2004:526 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
Updated vim packages
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Topic
Updated vim packages that fix a variety of bugs and add vim-X11 (gvim) are
now available.
Description
VIM (Vi IMproved) is an updated and improved version of the vi editor. Vi
was the first real screen-based editor for UNIX, and is still very popular.
VIM improves on vi by adding new features: multiple windows, multi-level
undo, block highlighting, and more.
These updated packages address the following issues:
- added vim-X11 subpackage (gvim)
- syntax highlighting can become very slow for big files
- crash when giving German message for ignoring case in tag
- crash with 'virtualedit' and selecting double-wide character
- error messages may not fit in buffer
- "vy" only yanks one byte of a double-byte character
- various memory leaks and use of NULL pointers
- cannot handle help tags in UTF-8 encoding
- multibyte characters not handled well with "r" in Visual mode
- crash with ":history" when history entry is very long
All users of vim should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues.
