Synopsis
XFree86 for Enterprise products for IPF preview Nvidia 980 & 380 Quadro 4 XGL
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Topic
Preview support for NVIDIA 380 and 980 Quadro 4 XGL cards is now included in
updated XFree86 packages for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux IPF (Itanium2)
product line.
Description
XFree86 is an implementation of the X Window System, which provides the
graphical user interface, video drivers, etc. for Linux systems.
The NVIDIA 380 and 980 Quadro 4 XGL devices are relatively new. These
errata packages allow the open source NVIDIA driver in XFree86 to recognize
and use these new cards. The card IDs have been added as a service to our
users on a best-effort basis only.
Because Red Hat does not have access to the complete specification set and
all hardware permutations, we are unable to claim full support for these
cards. Limited internal testing has yielded successful results, but Red
Hat cannot claim that all configurations will be fully operational.
Users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux on the IPF (Intel's Itanium 2)
architecture with NVIDIA 380 and 980 Quadro 4 XGL video cards should
upgrade to these errata packages to enhance the probability of successful
operation.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
