Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenStack Compute packages that resolve various issues are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5.0 (Icehouse)
for RHEL 6.
Description
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform provides the facilities for
building a private or public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud
running on commonly available physical hardware. This advisory includes
packages for:
- OpenStack Compute service
OpenStack Compute (nova) launches and schedules large networks of virtual
machines, creating a redundant and scalable cloud computing platform.
Compute provides the software, control panels, and APIs required to
orchestrate a cloud, including running virtual machine instances and
controlling access through users and projects.
The openstack-nova packages have been upgraded to upstream version 2014.1.5, which provides a number of bug fixes over the previous version. See https://launchpad.net/nova/icehouse/2014.1.5 for a complete list of the bug fixes. (BZ#1254716)
This update also fixes the following bugs:
- Previously, it was impossible to boot from a cinder volume whose size was larger than flavor disk size. With this update, the flavor disk size is no longer unnecessarily checked when booting from a volume, which resolves this problem. (BZ#1253601)
- The previous update of Red Hat OpenStack Platform 5 did not include a bug fix related to TrustedFilter which was correcting a configuration flag usage. As a consequence, TrustedFilter was not working. This update contains a backport of the bug fix and sets "attestation_insecure_ssl=False" in the /etc/nova/nova.conf file. As a result, TrustedFilter now works for Red Hat OpenStack 5. (BZ#1214513)
In addition, this update adds the following enhancements:
- A new [workarounds]/rhosp_disk_io_policies configuration item has been added to nova.conf allowing you to select the IO policy to use for various disk types. For example, you can set "rhosp_disk_io_policies=file=threads,network=native". (BZ#1222663)
- The vCPU topology configuration functionality has been backported into Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5, so that sockets, cores and threads can be configured for a given flavor and deployed within instances accordingly. (BZ#1256873)
Solution
Before applying this update, ensure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied.
