Topic
An updated sapconf package that fixes several bugs is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 7.
Description
The sapconf package contains a script that checks the basic installation of Red
Hat Enterprise Linux and modifies it according to SAP requirements. The script
ensures that all necessary packages are installed and that configuration
parameters are set correctly to run SAP software.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- One glibc package version contains a bug causing SAP to work improperly on Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 7 operating systems. Previously, sapconf did not check for
the glibc package version, which could lead to the use of the version with the
SAP bug. This update adds a check for the glibc package version, which reports
whether the version currently installed on the system is correct, thus fixing
the bug. (BZ#1170630)
- When the sapconf utility was run to prepare the operating system for SAP
installation, sapconf set an incorrect vm.max_map_count value. This update makes
sure the sapconf code sets the correct value recommended by the Installation
Guide, thus fixing the bug. (BZ#1168541)
- Previously, when sapconf fixed the /etc/hosts file, it also changed its
permissions making the file unreadable for non-root users. With this update,
sapconf overwrites the current /etc/hosts file while keeping the permissions,
and /etc/hosts thus remains readable for non-root users. (BZ#1083932)
- Prior to this update, when running the sapconf utility on a VMware guest,
sapconf did not recognize that the system is a virtual machine and returned the
following warning message:
System is not recognized as a virtual guest. It's either on bare
metal or on a Hypervisor that's not supported
This update adds the missing condition for VMware virtual machines, and sapconf
now recognizes VMware virtual machines correctly. (BZ#1071939)
- Previously, the sapconf script was missing some quotation marks when comparing
two values, and some values were thus considered an empty parameter. As a
consequence, when running sapconf on a system with an invalid host name, sapconf
could return error messages about a missing unary operator. The underlying
source code has been fixed, and sapconf now correctly compares given values,
thus fixing the bug. (BZ#1077498)
- Previously, when the sapconf utility was run to check the operating system
while some files like /etc/resolv.conf or /etc/hosts were not in the correct
format or were missing, sapconf did not correctly fix those files, and thus the
system was not properly prepared for the SAP installation. This update adds
various checks to sapconf to handle these cases, such as wrong file format of
missing files, so that the SAP installation can now pass smoothly. (BZ#1071928)
Users of sapconf are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which fixes
these bugs.
