RHBA-2014:0202 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
upstart bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated upstart packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 6.
Description
The upstart package contains an event-based replacement for the /sbin/init
daemon that starts tasks and services during boot, stops them during shut down,
and supervises them while the system is running.
This update fixes the following bug:
- Previously, when booting Red Hat Enterprise Linux automatically, if the
/dev/console file was not present on the system, the upstart daemon immediately
failed and the system could not boot. With this update, upstart now checks for
the presence of the /dev/console file on the system and waits until the file is
created. As a result, booting the system no longer fails. (BZ#1062581)
Users of upstart are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix
this bug.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.
This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red
Hat Network to apply this update are available at
