RHBA-2013:0947 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
hal bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated hal packages that fix one bug are now available for Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 4 Extended Lifecycle Support.
Description
The hal packages provides the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) daemon. HAL
collects and maintains information about the hardware on the system from several
sources, and provides a live device list through D-BUS.
This update fixes the following bug:
- A previous update fixed memory corruption in the asynchronous matching code
that caused the hald service to terminate unexpectedly. That patch, however,
introduced a regression denying USB devices from being mounted automatically
upon insertion on certain hardware combinations. This update reverts the
previous patch and applies series of patches that fix the original problem
without reintroducing the above-mentioned regression. The USB devices are now
automatically mounted as expected. (684001).
Users of hal are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fix this
bug.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata relevant
to your system have been applied.
