Bug Fix Advisory coreutils bug fix update

Advisory: RHBA-2012:0408-1
Type: Bug Fix Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2012-03-21
Last updated on: 2012-03-21
Affected Products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 server)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client)

Details

An updated coreutils package that fixes one bug is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

The coreutils package contains the core GNU utilities. It is the combination of
the old GNU fileutils, sh-utils, and textutils packages.

This update fixes the following bug:

* An incomplete fix for behavior of the "mv --backup" command, that was released
with the RHBA-2011:1074 errata advisory, caused the "cp --backup" command to
work incorrectly. When used with a directory as a source argument, the "cp
--backup" command did not backup individual files within the directory but whole
directory. This update corrects the problem and the "--backup" feature of the
"cp" utility now works as intended again. (BZ#803356)

All users of coreutils are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
fixes this bug.
