Synopsis
autofs bug fix update

Bug Fix Advisory

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated autofs package that fixes various bugs is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.
Description
The autofs5 utility controls the operation of the automount daemon. The
automount daemon automatically mounts file systems when you use them, and
unmounts them when they are not busy.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- Previously, autofs performed many redundant name lookups for servers that had
multiple addresses configured in DNS for round robin server selection. This
update reduces the dns lookup and improves the performance. (BZ#500673)
- Previously, autofs used excessive Central Processing Unit (CPU) resources in
certain cases. This was caused by a change to keep autofs able to correctly
expire mounts when the mounts were from one or more servers that were not
available at the time of the expire. This update adds an option for autofs to
use check as it was previously done for cases where server availability is not a
problem and high CPU usage. (BZ#623170)
All autofs users are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously-released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via the Red Hat Network. Details on how to
