RHBA-2011:0224 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
sysstat bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated sysstat package that fixes various bugs is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.
Description
The sysstat package provides the sar and iostat commands. These commands enable
system monitoring of disk, network, and other I/O activity.
This update fixes the following bugs:
- Previously, the variable types in the iostat tool were not identical to the
variable types in /proc/diskstats. This conflict could under circumstances cause
an overflow and iostat could display incorrect values. With this update, the
types are converted and the output values are now correct. (BZ#488181)
- Previously, a buffer overrun could have resulted in inconsistent device names
because of an ill-defined length in ioc_conv in common.c. With this update the
device names are consistent and the issue is resolved. (BZ#493345)
- Previously, sar data set the maximum number of days in log files too high for
timezones which switched to Daylight Saving Time (DST) in February. This caused
sar to add data from March to February. With this update, the maximum number of
days is now 25 and the issue is resolved. (BZ#578927)
- Previously, reading the sum of interrupts from /proc/stat as unsigned long
caused errors on 32-bit architectures because the kernel writes these sums as
unsigned long long. With this update, the types are converted and the output
values are now correct. (BZ#638191)
All sysstat users are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.

relevant to your system have been applied.
