RHBA-2010:0555 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
java-1.6.0-sun bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated java-1.6.0-sun packages that fix several bugs are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Extras and 5 Supplementary.
Description
The java-1.6.0-sun packages include the Sun Java 6 Runtime Environment, Sun Java
6 Software Development Kit (SDK), the source code for the Sun Java class
libraries, the Sun Java browser plugin and Web Start, the Sun JDBC/ODBC bridge
driver, and demonstration files for the Sun Java 6 SDK.
These updated java-1.6.0-sun packages upgrade Sun's Java 6 SDK from version
1.6.0_20 to version 1.6.0_21, which resolves a number of issues. To view the
release notes for the bug fixes included in this update, refer to the URL
provided in the "References" section of this errata.
These updated packages resolve the following issues:
- as of this update, packages containing the 32-bit JRE and SDK are available
also for customers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 on AMD64 and Intel 64.
(BZ#574937)
- the previous web browser plugin for i386 was not compatible with Firefox 3.6.
Now i386 switches to the same type of plugin as for x86_64. If the previous
plugin is still set after applying this update, switch to the new plugin by
using the following command: 'alternatives --set libjavaplugin.so
/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-sun/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so' (BZ#553409 and BZ#484572)
- the previous RPM packages had the wrong URL in their headers. With this
update, the packages contain the right URL of the Sun Java SE 6. (BZ#495280)
- the link to javaws, the Java Web Start launcher, was incorrectly placed in
/usr/share. It was moved to /usr/bin, so this command can be run directly on the
command line. (BZ#533834)
Users of java-1.6.0-sun are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
correct these issues. All running instances of Sun Java must be restarted for
the update to take effect.
