Synopsis
k3b bug fix update

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated k3b package that fixes a bug with the verification of written
data is now available.
Description
The k3b package is a CD/DVD burning application for KDE. It provides a
comfortable user interface to perform most CD/DVD burning tasks. While the
experienced users can influence all steps of the burning process, the
beginner may find comfort in the automatic settings and reasonable K3b
defaults, which allow a quick start.
- on 64-bit systems, after burning a DVD image and then attempting to
verify it, K3b would state that verifying the md5 checksum had failed, and
that therefore the data was not identical to the source data. However, this
would happen when the source and the disk image were actually identical,
due to the fact that K3b writes in 32 KB blocks, and when the ISO image was
not on a 32-byte boundary it was then filled with nulls. In this updated
package, K3b takes this into account when attempting to verify md5
checksums, which now succeed when the data is identical.
All users of k3b are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves this issue.
