RHBA-2009:0954 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
file bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated file package that fixes several bugs is now available.
Description
The file command is used to identify a particular file according to the
type of data contained in the file.
This updated file package provides fixes for the following bugs:
- when identifying a FLI file which was inside a .tar.gz tarball, the "-k"
option, which should "keep going" with file analysis, would stop at
identifying the FLI file. This updated version goes further and also
identifies the compressed file, as it should.
- the file command did not recognize some ppc64 ELF executable files
properly. This updated version is able to identify these files as
"application/x-executable".
- the file command misidentified a gzip file as a FLC file. This updated
version correctly identifies gzip files.
Users are advised to upgrade to this updated file package, which resolves
these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
