RHBA-2009:0186 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
OpenIPMI bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated OpenIPMI packages that fix several bugs and add enhancements are
now available.
Description
OpenIPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) provides command line
tools and utilities to access platform information, allowing system
administrators to monitor system health and manage systems.
These updated packages fix the following bugs:
- The ipmitool hpm firmware upgrade did not work for Pigeon Point BMCs
because it did not handle the response provided by the BMC to the first
"upload firmware block" message. This has been fixed by the rebase of
ipmitool to version 1.8.10 which handles this response and therefore allows
the firmware upgrade to proceed.
- The ipmitool user list command did not report if a user was enabled or
disabled. A recent errata for the IPMI specification resolved this problem
and a fix that implements the errata recommendation has been added.
- The manpages for ipmi_ui, rmcp_ping and openipmi_conparms contained minor
typos. These have all been corrected.
- A number of missing dependencies for subpackages have been added as
"requires" to the spec file.
- The ipmievd, under certain conditions, did not log any new messages to
the SEL buffer, which could include possible critical messages. In these
updated OpenIPMI packages, the system administrator will be warned of the
fact that ipmievd will soon be unable to log further messages, via syslog
overflow messages, before the SEL buffer becomes full. In addition, if this
situation has already occurred, then syslog overflow messages will be
logged stating that the buffer has already become full.
- The ipmitool crashed when invoked with 'sol payload' and 'tsol' command
line arguments. This behavior has been corrected in the version of OpenIPMI
supplied with this advisory.
- Previously, ipmitool did not support User Payload Access. The current
implementation of User Payload Access in ipmitool allows an end-user to
configure devices with the "Set User Payload Access" command.
Note: the corresponding "Get User Payload Access" command, which would
allow an end-user to to retrieve the current settings for those devices, is
not currently implemented.
In addition, the following enhancements have been added:
- The ipmitool application has been updated to version 1.8.10. This version
fixes numerous bugs and adds several features including:
- critical bug fixes from the previous update
- new command options, for example, watchdog timer shut-off
- updates to OEM Message catalog with new platform messages
- SDR/FRU collection fixes and enhancements
- the man page has been re-written to include all new functionality and
commands
Users of OpenIPMI are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues and add these enhancements.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
