RHBA-2009:0150 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
libspe2 bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated libspe2 packages that fix several bugs and add various enhancements
are now available.
Description
The SPE Runtime Management Library, libspe, constitutes the standardized
low-level API for application access to the Cell Broadband Engine's
Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). The API is neutral with respect to
the underlying operating system and its SPE management methods.
These updated libspe2 packages provide fixes for the following bugs:
- if "RHEL5.2-Server-Supplementary" was specified as a yum repository
during Anaconda installation, then due to a script error the package failed
to install and the following error message was printed:
"/usr/bin/elfspe-register: line 6: /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc/register: No
such file or directory". In these updated packages, this has been fixed so
that the package installs successfully, thus resolving the problem.
In addition, these updated packages upgrade the libspe 2.0 library to the
newer upstream version 2.2.80, which includes a number of fixes for bugs
present in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 libspe release. Notably, these
updated libspe 2.0 packages include equivalent utilities for the 'ps' and
'top' commands for SPE processors.
Users are advised to upgrade to these updated libspe2 packages, which
resolve these issues and add these enhancements.
