RHBA-2009:0120 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
tmpwatch bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated tmpwatch package that fixes a bug is now available.
Description
The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and
removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time.
tmpwatch is normally used to clean up directories which are used for
temporarily holding files (for example, /tmp).
This updated tmpwatch package fixes a bug which occurred when certain
programs extracted contents from archives. In cases when the extracting
program did not change the file access times, which tmpwatch examines to
determine which files to remove, tmpwatch could remove files which had just
been extracted. In this updated package, tmpwatch will only remove older
files based on careful analysis of access, modification and inode change times.
Users do not need to change any configuration files for this improved
behavior to take effect.
All users of tmpwatch are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves this issue.
