RHBA-2008:0666 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
sysstat bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated sysstat package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
The sysstat package provides the sar and iostat commands. These commands
enable system monitoring of disk, network, and other I/O activity.
This updated sysstat package includes fixes for the following bugs:
- sysstat was not able to monitor the system status at intervals of one
second in length.
- the sar command would show inaccurate CPU usage information on machines
with long uptimes due to several variable overflows.
- the sar utility would report an inaccurate total CPU time total for all
CPUs combined ("all") under certain situations in multi-processor situations.
- in a system under heavy load, the sadc utility would sometimes ouput the
following error message: "Cannot write data to system activity file:
Success." In this updated package, the sadc utility successfully writes the
remaining input, thus resolving this issue.
All users of sysstat are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
