Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
autofs 5 packages are available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.
Description
The autofs utility controls the operation of the automount daemon. The
automount daemon automatically mounts and unmounts file systems after a
period of inactivity. File systems can include network file systems,
CD-ROMs, diskettes, and other media.
The autofs version 5 package is being made available as a technology
preview in Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 4 so that customers can take
advantage of the features in the new version included in Red Hat Enterprise
Linux version 5. The steps needed to use this product can be found in the
distribution release notes.
The issues resolved since the introduction of autofs version 5 in Red Hat
Enterprise Linux version 5 are as follows:
- "winbind" as an nsswitch source caused mounts to fail.
- Adding hard space to a mount point directory could cause an incorrect
file system to be mounted.
- The hosts map would not function behind a NAT interface.
- Expire alarm handling caused locking issues.
- Mount locations with "localhost" as the server did not work.
- automount could segfault when a mount was triggered by a user with a
group that doesn't exist.
- A mount map that had an entry which was continued to a white-space-only
blank line caused a syntax error.
- Included maps failed to show mount point directories when the browse
option was given.
- Wildcard map entries were handled incorrectly when multiple nsswitch
sources were used.
- The handling of global mount options was not backwards compatible with
autofs version 4.
- The handling of the wildcard map entry with LDAP was corrected.
- Added missing support for the "multi" map type.
- Macro handling failed to recognize "." as a valid character in names and
values.
- Added support for "ldaps" as a map type.
