Topic
Updated s390utils packages that fix several bugs and add enhancements
are now available.
Description
The s390utils package contains utilities related to Linux for the IBM
S/390.
These updated packages fix the following bugs:
- the dasdview manpage previously stated examples beginning with "-s" under
the "-b" option, and examples beginning with "-o" under the "-s" option.
The examples under the "-b" option should start with "-b". The examples
under the "-s" option should start with "-s". The examples have been
updated to reflect the correct usage.
- the integrated ASCII console on the Hardware Management Console (HMC) now
correctly sets the TERM environment variable to "TERM=linux".
- the manual page for the "lsdasd" command was missing. The lsdasd manual
page has been included in these updated packages.
- running ZIPL with a target directory located on a Logical Volume (LV)
caused the /root partition to become read-only, possibly leading to data
corruption. These updated packages fix ZIPL's disk-type detection logic
preventing targets from being located on LVs.
- the ZIPL bootloader did not differentiate between z/VM console (EBCDIC
037) and LPAR (EBCDIC 500) when converting EBCDIC user input. When
specifying extra kernel parameters via the boot menu on LPAR, characters
such as [, ], !, and ^ were converted incorrectly, possibly leading to
invalid kernel parameters. The EBCDIC 500 conversion table is now used on
LPAR, which resolves this issue.
This update also adds the following enhancements:
- a new userspace tool allowing Linux running on IBM System z to read
and write to tape cartridges encrypted using the IBM 3592 encryption
feature.
- a userspace daemon which adds support for monitoring Direct Access
Storage Device (DASD) utilization, using ApplData, for multiple IBM
System z/VM guests.
All s390utils users should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues and add these enhancements.
