RHBA-2007:0182 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
shared-mime-info bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated shared-mime-info packages that fix a bug in the Microsoft Word
DOC mime-type assignment are now available.
Description
This is the freedesktop.org shared MIME info database.
Many programs and desktops use the MIME system to represent the types of
files. Frequently, it is necessary to work out the correct MIME type for
a file. This is generally done by examining the file's name or contents,
and looking up the correct MIME type in a database.
When using Evolution to send e-mails, Microsoft Word files would be
attached with the application/vnd.ms-word mime-type. Unfortunately, some
mail systems would not recognise this mime-type as "safe", and rename the
attachment to avoid viruses, etc. With this bug fix, Microsoft Word
attachments are sent with the expected application/msword mime-type.
Users should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
