Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated selinux-policy-targeted packages that fix various bugs are now
available.
Description
Security-enhanced Linux is a patch of the Linux® kernel and a number
of utilities with enhanced security functionality designed to add
mandatory access controls to Linux. The Security-enhanced Linux
kernel contains new architectural components originally developed to
improve the security of the Flask operating system. These
architectural components provide general support for the enforcement
of many kinds of mandatory access control policies, including those
based on the concepts of Type Enforcement®, Role-based Access
Control, and Multi-level Security.
These packages contain the SELinux example policy configuration, the Flask
configuration information and the application configuration files.
Bug fixes in these updated packages include:
- Added additional access for the snmp daemon
- Allowed apache cgi scripts to change (lower) their priority
- Allowed pegasus to read/write shared memory devices owned by unconfined
processes
- Allowed httpd to read Kernel Network State for fortitude
- The latest version of nscd requires setcap capabilities
Users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which apply these
bug fixes.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
