RHBA-2006:0530 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
perl bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated perl packages are available.
Description
Perl is a high-level programming language with roots in C, sed, awk
and shell scripting. Install this package if you want to program in Perl or
enable your system to handle Perl scripts.
This update fixes an issue using the 'O::' frontend with the
'B::Deparse' compiler backend with assignments to the return value
of split() (rt.perl.org bug RT#38214), as in the following example:
# perl -MO=Deparse -e '@ARGV = split(//, "");'
.
Users of Perl are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
