RHBA-2006:0478 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
crash bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated crash packages are now available.
Description
The crash package is used to investigate live systems and kernel core dumps
created from the netdump and diskdump packages.
If the starting point of a panicking task's backtrace was located on the
process stack, on a per-cpu IRQ stack, or on the per-cpu NMI exception
stack, the "bt" command found it as expected. However, if the crash
occurred while operating on the other four exception stacks, the
STACKFAULT, DOUBLEFAULT, DEBUG, and MCE stacks, the "bt" command showed an
invalid backtrace because those stacks were not searched. This version of
the crash utility searches all five 64-bit architecture exception stacks
for the panic task backtrace starting point.
These packages contains fixes for the "net -s" and "net -S" commands. The
"net -s" command now translates IPV6 addresses and ports instead of leaving
those fields empty. Further, the "net -S" command now properly shows the
"socket" and "sock" structure contents for each open socket of a task.
The "vm -p" command option failed with a "pml page" read error when
run on a 64-bit architecture user process. This version of the crash
utility properly dumps the location of each page of user virtual address
space.
Users of crash should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
