RHBA-2006:0442 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
python bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
Updated python packages that fix multilib problems are now available.
Description
Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming
language often compared to Tcl, Perl, Scheme or Java. Python includes
modules, classes, exceptions, very high level dynamic data types and
dynamic typing.
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 version of python was inconsistent with future
versions in the way it deals with multilib packages. More specifically, on
multilib systems, sysconfig.get_python_lib() and
sysconfig.get_python_lib(plat-specific=1) were both returning the 64-bit
path, where the former should have returned the 32-bit path.
This fix should enable developers to build packages in a similar way on Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. Developers should
upgrade to these updated packages.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
