Topic
Updated nss_ldap packages which fix various bugs are now available for Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 4.
Description
The nss_ldap module provides the standard C library with the ability to use
a directory server as a primary source for information about users and groups.
If connectivity problems caused a communication failure between the
nss_ldap module and the directory server, client applications rapidly
became unresponsive as they waited for responses from the directory server.
This update sets default timeouts which set an upper bound on those delays.
The pam_ldap module provides PAM-aware applications with the ability to
check a user's password by attempting to use it to authenticate to a
directory server.
When the password used to authenticate to the server expired, the
client attempted to modify the user's password. If the directory
server returned a referral in response to the modification request,
indicating that the modification needed to be performed on another server
(frequently due to the first server being a read-only replica), the client
failed to authenticate to the second server.
This update incorporates a patch which preserves the information which is
needed for authenticating to that server.
Users are advised to upgrade to this update, which resolve these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
This update is available via Red Hat Network. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
