Synopsis
gdb bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated gdb package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
GDB, the GNU debugger, allows debugging of programs written in C, C++,
and other languages, by executing them in a controlled fashion and then
printing their data.
This updated package addresses the following issues:
- GDB on Itanium had a problem if the user specified non-default handling
of SIGILL.
- GDB on Itanium was having problems with backtraces across a switch from
signal stack to regular stack which occurs when the user program uses the C
sigaltstack function.
- GDB on code using LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 was not providing as much
backtrace information as earlier versions of gdb due to a zero pc value.
- GDB attaching to a stopped process was hanging.
- GDB had an extraneous free call which was freeing a pointer that
wasn't allocated in some cases.
- GDB was sometimes issuing a "partial die in cache" error message.
- GDB used on a threaded program would sometimes fail with an internal
assertion regarding the pid value coming back from a waitpid not being the
expected value.
All users of gdb should upgrade to these updated packages, which resolve
these issues.
