Synopsis
device-mapper bug fix and enhancement update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated device-mapper packages that include various bug fixes and
enhancements are now available.
Description
The device-mapper packages provide a library required by logical volume
management utilities such as LVM2 and dmraid.
These packages include the following bug fixes and enhancements:
- Fixes a segmentation fault that can occur if dmsetup is called with
invalid parameters.
- Adds a new parameter --tree to 'dmsetup ls' that displays the
dependencies between devices as a tree.
- Adds the parameter '--nolockfs' to 'dmsetup suspend' which avoids
flushing file system metadata.
- If the kernel reports that the buffer supplied with an ioctl is too small
to hold the output requested, libdevmapper now automatically increases the
buffer size and repeats the request.
- Moves numerous useful LVM2 library functions into libdevmapper so they
are available to other applications. See the libdevmapper.h header file
for more details.
- dm_format_dev() now drops leading zeros.
- Implements some higher-level functions in libdevmapper as useful wrappers
around the existing dm_task-based functions. The new lvm2 package uses
these new functions.
All users of device-mapper should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve these issues and include these enhancements.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
Network to download and update your packages. To launch the Red Hat
Update Agent, use the following command:
