RHBA-2005:735 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
dlm-kernel bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated dlm-kernel package that fixes various bugs is now available.
Description
The dlm-kernel modules allow the dlm (distributed lock manager) to
communicate with the kernel.
These updated dlm-kernel packages are in sync with the latest kernel
(2.6.9-22.EL). The modules in earlier dlm-kernel packages fail to load
because they do not match the running kernel. It is possible to force the
loading of the modules; however, this update alleviates the need to do so.
In addition, the following bugs have been discovered and addressed since
the previous release:
- A bug was found which caused an incorrect error code to be returned from
a dlm_lock() operation done from userspace.
- A bug was found which could cause the dlm module to cause a kernel panic
when unloaded.
All users of dlm-kernel should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
