RHBA-2005:442 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Updated squid package
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated squid package that fixes two errors is now avaliable.
Description
Squid is a high-performance proxy caching server for Web clients,
supporting FTP, gopher, and HTTP data objects. Unlike traditional caching
software, Squid handles all requests in a single, non-blocking, I/O-driven
process. Squid keeps meta data and especially hot objects cached in RAM,
caches DNS lookups, supports non-blocking DNS lookups, and implements
negative caching of failed requests.
An error introduced in squid-2.5.STABLE3-6.3E.2 prevented Squid from
receiving (and thus logging) the authenticated username when squid is
configured to use the ntlm authentication helper. This update fixes this
error.
Some firewalls allow HTTP filtering based on the contents of packets. Such
firewalls may require that the Host: header be in the first packet of a
request. Previously, squid rewrote the client headers and moved the
Host: header towards the end of the header information. With this update,
squid rewrites the Host: header in place while processing the client request.
All users of squid should upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
this issue.
