RHBA-2005:352 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
ypserv bug fix update
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated ypserv package that fixes status bit and port flag problems is
now available.
Description
The Network Information Service (NIS) is a system that provides
network information (login names, passwords, home directories, group
information) to all of the machines on a network. NIS allows users
to log in on any machine on the network, as long as the machine has
the NIS client programs running and the user's password is recorded in
the NIS passwd database. NIS was formerly known as Sun Yellow Pages
(YP).
This erratum fixes a problem with makedbm which caused it to leave a space
at the end of a key during map generation.
A problem occurred when an application asked ypserv for information
from a nonexistent map. The ypserv daemon failed the request and set a
status bit incorrectly, preventing the application from recognizing the
failure.
This erratum also fixes a race condition which caused ypserv to crash
infrequently.
All users of ypserv should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves these issues.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
