RHBA-2004:598 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Updated spamassassin package
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated spamassassin package that removes an obsolete RBL lookup is now
available.
Description
SpamAssassin provides a way to reduce unsolicited commercial email (SPAM)
from incoming email. It can be invoked with various MTAs such as sendmail
or postfix, or can be called from a procmail script, .forward file, etc.
It uses an algorithm to identify messages which look like spam, then adds
headers to the message so they can be filtered by the user's mail reading
software.
Spamassassin, as shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, performs RBL
lookups against osirusoft.com to help determine if an email is spam.
However, this RBL has recently shut down and returns false positives.
This update addresses that change and does not score the RBL checks for
osirusoft.com.
All users of spamassassin should upgrade to this updated package, which
resolves this issue.
