RHBA-2004:540 - Bug Fix Advisory
Synopsis
Updated usermode package
Type/Severity
Bug Fix Advisory
Topic
An updated usermode package that fixes a bug in the usermount command is
now available.
Description
The usermode package contains the userhelper program, which can be
used to allow configured programs to be run with superuser privileges
by ordinary users. The usermode-gtk package contains several graphical
tools for users: userinfo, usermount, and userpasswd. Userinfo allows
users to change their finger information. Usermount lets users mount,
unmount, and format file systems. Userpasswd allows users to change their
passwords.
Usermount calls /sbin/mkfs to create a particular file system on a selected
device. When creating a MS-DOS or VFAT file system using the "-I" option,
mkfs.msdos and mkfs.vfat refused to create the file system on full fixed
disk devices. This is frequently the case with external USB floppy drives,
and other removable media.
All users of usermode should upgrade to these updated packages, which
resolve this issue.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
