Type: Security Advisory

Last updated on: 2002-11-05
Affected Products: Red Hat Stronghold for Enterprise Linux
OVAL: N/A
CVEs (cve.mitre.org): CVE-2002-1148

Details

Updated tomcat packages are now available for Stronghold on Red Hat Linux
Advanced Server to close a JSP source code exposure vulnerability.

Tomcat is the servlet container that is used in the official Reference
Implementation for the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages technologies. A
source code exposure vulnerability has been found that affects Tomcat
versions 4.0.0 through 4.0.4 and 4.1.0 through 4.1.10.

Using a carefully crafted request, a remote attacker can read the source
code of any deployed JSP file.

Stronghold for Red Hat Linux Advanced Server shipped with Tomcat version
4.0.3 and is therefore susceptible to this vulnerability.

All users are advised to upgrade to these errata packages containing
Tomcat version 4.0.5 which is not vulnerable to these issues.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
