sed Shift_JIS enhancement update

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated sed Shift_JIS packages that add one enhancement are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Description
Sed (for Stream EDitor) is a stream editor, sometimes also called a batch
(non-interactive) editor, that takes text as input, performs an operation or a
set of operations on the text, and outputs the modified text. The operations
that sed performs, such as substitutions, deletions, or insertions, can be
specified in a script file or from the command line. Shift JIS (SJIS) is a
character encoding for the Japanese language. The sed Shift_JIS packages provide
sed support for SJIS.
This update adds the following enhancement:
- Previously, the sed utility did not correctly handle reading a multibyte
character that could not be converted with the "ja_JP.SJIS" locale. As a
consequence, incomplete multibyte character input could cause the sed command to
enter an infinite loop. The problem did not influence the UTF-8 character
encoding, but a fix was needed for SJIS. With this update, an upstream fix has
been backported for this bug, and the sed command no longer loops infinitely in
this situation. (BZ#1458106)
Users who require SJIS encoding support with sed functions are advised to
upgrade to these updated packages, which add this enhancement.
