Synopsis
pdksh Shift_JIS enhancement update

Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated pdksh packages that add one enhancement are now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.
Description
The Public Domain Korn Shell (pdksh) implements the KSH-88 programming language
for both interactive and shell script use. The pdksh packages provide an
alternative to the KSH-93 implementation of the KornShell for backward
compatibility. They are also useful in situations where customers need to port
their scripts from KSH-88 to KSH-93. Shift JIS (SJIS) is a character encoding
for the Japanese language. The pdksh Shift_JIS packages provide pdksh support
for SJIS
This update adds the following enhancement:
- Previously, pdksh failed to substitute commands which included SJIS multibyte
characters encoded as "0x5c" or "0x60" in the shell child process. As a
consequence, some of the SJIS-encoded input data could be lost. With this
update, pdksh has been modified to read SJIS characters properly, and the input
data loss no longer occurs. (BZ#1163043)
Users who require SJIS encoding support with pdksh should upgrade to these
updated packages, which add this enhancement.
