Synopsis
bash Shift_JIS enhancement update
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated bash Shift_JIS packages that add one enhancement are now available for
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
Description
The GNU Bourne-Again Shell (Bash) is a shell or command language interpreter
that is compatible with the Bourne shell (sh) and incorporates features from the
KornShell interface (ksh) and the C shell (csh). Bash is the default shell for
Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The Shift JIS (SJIS) character encoding is used for
the Japanese language. The bash Shift_JIS packages provide Bash support for the
SJIS encoding.
This update adds the following enhancement:
- A previous release of the bash Shift_JIS packages disrupted the versioning
conventions used with bash Shift_JIS. This change in versioning conventions
could cause users to replace their SJIS Bash with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Bash
by mistake. This update fixes the versioning conventions of bash_SJIS, and the
release field of the packages is now correct. (BZ#1147871)
Users who require SJIS encoding support with bash built-in functions should
install these updated packages, which add this enhancement.
