Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
An updated spacewalk-utils package, which adds support for renaming a
Satellite server's hostname, is now available. Note re package name:
Spacewalk is the upstream project from which Red Hat Network Satellite
derives.
Description
Red Hat Network Satellite is a systems management tool for Linux-based
infrastructures. It allows for the provisioning, remote management and
monitoring of multiple Linux deployments with a single, centralized tool.
The spacewalk-utils package provides generic utilities that may be run
against a Spacewalk or Red Hat Network Satellite server.
This update provides the following enhancement:
- a new script, spacewalk-hostname-rename, was added to spacewalk-utils.
This script re-configures a Satellite server when its hostname or IP has
changed. spacewalk-hostname-rename reconfigures /etc/rhn/rhn.conf and the
SSL certificate as well as taking care of the database, jabberd, cobbler
and monitoring. (BZ#497953)
Note: for detailed instructions see the Red Hat Knowledgebase article
linked to in the References section below.
All Red Hat Network Satellite users should upgrade to this updated package,
which adds this enhancement.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
or, for RHEL 5:
yum update
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
After installing the needed packages you will need to run:
rhn-satellite restart
