Enhancement Advisory stsclient enhancement update

Advisory: RHEA-2009:1473-1
Type: Product Enhancement Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2009-10-02
Last updated on: 2009-10-02
Affected Products: RHEL Software Test Suite

Details

An updated stsclient package that adds support for extracting data from
installed rpms; for creating a new bug report from a shell prompt; and an
updated User Guide is now available.

The stsclient binary is a tool used to extract information from application
binaries which are built for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It uses tools
shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux to query underlying usage and
consumption of symbols and tests the software, enabling Independent
Software Vendors to ascertain the compatibility of their software with a
Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. The binary provided with this package is
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server running on x86, AMD64 and Intel 64
architectures.

This updated package includes the following enhancements:

* previously, raising a new Bugzilla request was only possible via the web
interface provided at bugzilla.redhat.com. This updated stsclient can raise
Bugzilla requests using four switches (-n, -x, -r and -m) in conjunction
with the stsclient command at a shell prompt. The updated STS user guide --
installed to /usr/share/doc/stsclient-1.1/sts_user_guide.pdf -- includes
details regarding these switches and their verbose alternatives. (BZ#522772)

* previously, the ISV or Partner name and the Application name were added
to a bug report manually. This updated stsclient supports adding these
strings to a report with the -m and -q switches respectively. (BZ#522774)

* using the --elf switch, the stsclient tool can now extract Executable and
Linking Format (ELF) information from both rpm and non-rpm applications.
(BZ#522775, BZ#522784)

Red Hat Software Test Suite users should install this updated package,
which adds these enhancements.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh stsclient-1.1-1.el5.noarch.rpm

where stsclient is a the RPM you wish to upgrade. Only those RPMs which are
currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are not installed but
included in the list will not be updated. Note that you can also use
wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the desired
RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
