gcc4 bug fix and enhancement update

Updated GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) version 4.1.2 packages that fix
various bugs and add enhancements are now available.

The gcc4 packages contain the GNU Compiler Collection version 4.1.2. They
include C, C++, limited Fortran 95 compilers, and a Java compiler and
support libraries.

These packages have been upgraded to the version of gcc4 provided with Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3, update the GCC 4.1.2 snapshot, fix various bugs
and add various enhancements. This puts these packages more in line with
the default compiler in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3. Note that in the gcc4
packages, g++ compiles and links against the gcc 3.4.6 version of
libstdc++, instead of the version 4.1.2 of libstdc++ which Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.3 compiles and links against.

These updated gcc4 packages provide fixes for the following bugs:

* a type mismatch due to bitfields in GCC's SRA (scalar replacement of
aggregates) optimization meant that certain code compiled at any
optimization level (other than non-optimized) would fail to compile.

* the libgcj4-src RPM contained a file, src-4.1.2.zip, which could not be
unzipped on certain systems due to a bug in the fastjar utility. In these
updated packages, the fastjar utility has been fixed to work correctly on
64-bit, big-endian architectures.

* when compiled with the GNU Compiler for Java (GCJ), the
java.net.URI.relativize() function returned URI strings which differed from
those returned from code compiled to pure JVM bytecode (such as when
compiling with the Java SE Development Kit or the IBM JDK). With this fix,
java.net.URI.relative() returns the same URI string when compiled with GCJ
as it does when compiled with other Java compilers, thus resolving the issue.

* fixed a bug in var-tracking.

* fixed AMD64 TLS handling.

* fixed C++ OpenMP privatized var constructor and destructor cleanup handling.

* fixed make_bit_field_ref with large offsets.

Due to package dependencies, these gcc4 packages are not identical to the
equivalent packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3. The following
enhancements, which are included with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3, were
not included in earlier releases of gcc4 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4,
and are again not included in these packages:

* support for the '-fstack-protector' option is not included in these packages.

* support for the '--hash-style=gnu' option is not included in these packages.

* support for the '-msecure-plt' option on the PowerPC architecture is not
included in these packages.

* support for the '-mlong-double-128' option on the PowerPC and IBM S/390
architectures is not included in these packages.

To view this information, run the following command after the package is
installed:

rpm -q --changelog gcc4

All gcc4 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which add
these enhancements and resolve these issues, bringing the gcc4 packages
more in line with those for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3.

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
