A new system statistics tool, dstat, is now available for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5.

Dstat is a versatile replacement for the vmstat, iostat, netstat and ifstat
tools. Dstat overcomes some of the other tools' limitations and provides
extra features, more counters and greater flexibility. Dstat is handy
for monitoring systems for performance tuning tests, benchmarks or
troubleshooting.

Dstat allows users to view all of system resources instantly. For example,
dstat can compare disk usage in combination with interrupts from IDE
controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers directly with the disk
throughput. Dstat allows the user to view both comparisons with data taken
at the same interval.

Dstat gives detailed, selective information in columns and clearly
indicates the magnitude and units the output is displayed in.

Users who wish to use this functionality should install this new package.

Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied.
