Type: Product Enhancement Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2007-10-30

Details

An updated redhat-rpm-config package, that adds support for modalias tag
dependency tracking and firmware dependencies, is now available.

redhat-rpm-config is a package that contains macros used by rpmbuild to
create RPM packages.

Module alias tags are used by the Linux kernel in order to identify which
hardware a given driver module supports, to facilitate autoloading. This
update adds modalias tracking into pre-packaged driver modules (kmods) so
that it is possible for third party tools to determine whether an RPM
containing a Linux kernel driver provides support for a given device.

Firmware is binary code that is loaded by specific hardware devices in
order to support functionality not provided physically or through software
alone. This update adds firmware tracking functionality to the generated
driver module packages (kmods).

All users should install this newly released package, which adds this
enhancement.
