Details

A new fonts package, liberation-fonts, which obsoletes the fonts-monotype
package, is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4.

The Liberation Fonts are a non-proprietary, metric-compatible alternative
to three common proprietary typefaces: Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier
New.

This new package includes three typefaces:

* Sans (an alternative to Arial, Albany, Helvetica, Nimbus Sans L, and
Bitstream Vera Sans).

* Serif (an alternative to Times New Roman, Thorndale, Nimbus Roman, and
Bitstream Vera Serif).

* Mono (an alternative to Courier New, Cumberland, Courier, Nimbus Mono L,
and Bitstream Vera Sans Mono).

To allow for a seamless switch from the fonts-monotype package (which
included Albany, Thorndale, and Cumberland, three proprietary typefaces
with similar metrics to Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New), the
liberation-fonts package obsoletes fonts-monotype. Installing
liberation-fonts will, therefore, remove fonts-monotype.

All users wanting access to non-proprietary typefaces should install this
newly-released package.
