RHEA-2005:596 - Product Enhancement Advisory
Synopsis
device-mapper enhancement update
Type/Severity
Product Enhancement Advisory
Red Hat Insights patch analysis
Identify and remediate systems affected by this advisory.
Topic
Updated device-mapper packages that include various enhancements are now
available.
Description
The device-mapper packages provide a library required by logical volume
management utilities such as LVM2 and dmraid.
These packages include the following enhancements:
- In addition to its column-based output, 'dmsetup -c info',
colon-separated output is now available, 'dmsetup -c --noheadings info'.
To replicate multipath devmap_name functionality add '-o name'.
- Support for selinux. An error in the upstream package meant that the
configuration option RHEL4 uses to enable selinux support had no
effect. Consequently device file contexts were not set correctly.
- Two new dmsetup command-line options. 'dmsetup ls --target
<target_type> --exec <command>' executes <command> for each
device that has at least one target of <target_type>.
- When a program using libdevmapper exits, dm_lib_exit() gets called
automatically. It is not necessary to call it explicitly any more.
Existing calls can be left as they are: it is safe to call it twice in
succession.
All users of device-mapper should upgrade to these updated packages, which
include these enhancements.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released
errata relevant to your system have been applied. Use Red Hat
Network to download and update your packages. To launch the Red Hat
Update Agent, use the following command:
up2date
