Enhancement Advisory Updated 2.4 kernel available

Advisory: RHEA-2002:082-10
Type: Product Enhancement Advisory
Severity: N/A
Issued on: 2002-05-06
Last updated on: 2002-05-16
Affected Products: Red Hat Linux 7.2
OVAL: N/A

Details

This kernel package includes the Open Source LCS driver and
a patch allowing a second initial RAM disk.

This kernel package is only for use with S/390 and zSeries systems.

Included in the new kernel is the Open Source LCS driver for both the OSA-2
Ethernet Token Ring card and the OSA-Express Fast Ethernet
card in non-QDIO mode.

Also included is a patch allowing for a second initial RAM disk. This
simplifies installer fixes because there is no need to download a new
second stage RAM disk (which can be more than 35M) when a small program of
2kb or so is all that needs to be modified.

This patch also provides a means to load third party modules during the
installation process without requiring the user to modify the initial RAM
disk by hand.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
