Details

A new version of rpm is now required to install Red Hat updates and
packages from Raw Hide.

Newly built packages from Red Hat include internal dependencies
provided by rpm (and other tools like the installer and up2date).

Specifically, the new required dependencies are

1) rpmlib(VersionedDependencies)
PreReq:, Provides:, and Obsoletes: dependencies support versions.

2) rpmlib(CompressedFileNames)
file names are stored as (dirName,BaseName, dirIndex) tuple, not as
an absolute file path.

In addition, rpm-3.0.5 will handle an incompatible change in rpm packaging
that will be used in Red Hat 7.0.

Solution

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filename]

where filename is the name of the RPM.
